The Dão region in Portugal is famous for its high-quality wines. It is located in the center-north of the country, mostly in the district of Viseu, and is one of the oldest controlled designations of origin (DOC) in the country.

Dão wines are known for their elegance and ageing capacity, especially the reds, which are usually well structured and balanced, with grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and Jaen. The whites are also interesting, often made with Encruzado, a grape variety that gives fresh and mineral wines.

First of all, we suggest for this basket the Quinta do Mondego Family Blend Dão Red. Quinta do Mondego – located in Nelas – is one of the most important estates in this wine region of Portugal. In an unforgettable setting, the vineyards of the Quinta run along the banks of the Mondego River, which makes the wine unique and fresh.

An award-winning wine, with a deep ruby color, aromatically very intense, ripe fruit and some florals and a very attractive overall profile. To combine this wine with enormous gastronomic aptitude, we suggest a buttery sheep’s cheese from Aguiar da Beira and a pumpkin jam produced in Gouveia, in the heart of Serra da Estrela.
